| 'The Hobbit': Evangeline Lilly as Tauriel | Inside Movies | EW.com Evangeline Lilly to play Turiel, a Mirkwood Elf in the upcoming Hobbit movie????? I am I the only one who's having a total panic attack and mental breakdown over this? How could Peter Jackson do this? Firstly, the character she's playing doesn't even exist ANYWHERE in Tolkien literature. She's entirely Peter Jackson's creation. Secondly, she's likely going to be a love interest for Legolas. (*PUKE*) Which, also, never happens. And thirdly, if this is really something P.J. thinks is essential to the movie, WHY OH WHY did he have to cast HER? The one character I wanted to die a slow and painful death on Lost, and she has to be put into THIS UNIVERSE? I'm a Fantasy writer...the novel I'm currently working on is Part One in a series set in a fantasy land. Fellowship of the Ring is one of my favorite books...the movie trilogy was a good adaptation, I thought...the newest Hobbit movie was alright...it would have been better without the White Orc who, surprise, surprise, ALSO didn't exist in the book. But this is just an ALL TIME LOW. Why not cast Lena what's-her-face....the Spartan Queen in the role? She wold have been awesome, if indeed they HAD to put the role there in the first place.
