Question for guys in their 20's

Alright so I'll make this short. Met a guy and we talked everyday in text and almost everyday on the phone. It was getting too close (he's a pot smoker and I wouldn't ever be ok with that). He lives 10 hours away so in some ways it was easier then if he were living nearby. So I called on Saturday and explained that it would be better if we don't talk (because although we could possibly build a friendship, it was just instant attraction and skipped the friendship stage). He ended up saying that he thought it was a good decision too because like he said he isn't ready for a relationship (which wasn't originally either one of our intentions. It was just to get to know each other) and that he confessed to being scared about getting hurt. This is my question. The convo ended well and we know we will see each other again eventually, but in a couple of weeks if I'm still thinking about him. Would it be ok to text and let him know that? Also, if he was th inking about or missing me would he probably text and tell me that? I don't want to tell him to have him feel pressured to say the same if he doesn't.
