Coping with prolonged periods of communication

Our relationship is hitting a serious rock and it is all to do with the fact that my wife has to have lots of prolonged periods where we just sit face to face and talk. No other distractions. I can't be working on some other task, she won't sit with me when I am doing some diy or housework. I definitely can't be flicking through my phone. It has to be pure face to face discussion.

To me this is incredibly tedious. I always need to be fiddling with some thing else. To just sit there and concentrate on one thing is painful. Just like being back at church.

The wife takes it very personally and thinks it is because I think she is boring. To some extent it is true. She does talk incredibly slowly and takes ages to get to the point.

I don't see why we can't just flow through the day together. Telling each other what's important whilst working on various tasks together. We do have a lot of outstanding things to do. So to get it all done together makes perfect sense to me.

What is it that I am failing to get here? How can I cope with it? Any strategies that would keep us both happy?
