How do [white] girls feel about interracial relationships?

Hi all,

I'm just wondering how girls, especially Caucasian White English girls, feel about dating/ sleeping with men of ethnic origins, particularly black men?

I am a black guy and moved here five years ago and I've only dated white girls for several reasons; a.) I went to an all-boys prep school back home, so never really got the exposure to females that other boys may well have; b.) When I moved to England, we lived in one of the most affluent neighbourhoods of our area where Black people are almost unheard of (in fact, I only seem to remember seeing a black person or family no more than five times in 4 years!) and so all my friends were white, as were the two girls I dated consecutively whilst there.

Although I've thankfully never been a victim of racism, I always get the impression that white people, especially older ones, find interracial relationships very uncomfortable and those two girls only went out with me because they're accepting/ open-minded, or felt sorry for me? I don't know. I know in more ethnically diverse parts of the country such as Birmingham, Nottingham, and London it's very much acceptable, but less so in more gentrified and 'bourgeoisie' areas this is rare.

Now I'm hoping to go to Cambridge University or Durham University, both of which are largely White Middle-Class dominated and am scared I won't actually ever date/ sleep with any of the girls because I've heard they are wary of dating black men due to their 'distinctive appearance' and somewhat misinformed reputation of being thugs etc. - something I'm not.
I've been rejected by girls before in favour of my no-more-than-average-looking friends (or so I hear) and always wondered if my luck would have been different had I been white.

So my question as before is, how do white girls feel about dating black guys especially when its not commonplace for such behaviour?
