Do times of zero contact e.g. when partner is on holiday still count as relationship?

So if someone said they had been with someone for a 1 year but if about 2 months of this 1 year was spent with one partner abroad (ZERO contact as previously discussed and agreed due to call charges being expensive, no internet, etc which is fine), would this still classify as time spent being in a relationship? By the way, I don't mean just if it's 1 year but if the relationship was even just a few months long. Thanks
