Can relationships really last forever?

  • Thread Starter

I've been mulling over the same thing a lot recently. I love my boyfriend of 2 years a lot and I would love to be with him forever. We've discussed it a few times and he seems to want to as well. We're both 22 so still young and naive, but i've known him for about 4 years now and for about 3 of that I have fancied the pants off of him.

However.... I'm scared. I've been watching a lot of films and reading books recently that all seem to have the same theme: marriages don't work and you'll end up miserable.
I've watched my parents suffer through a bad marriage they shouldn't be in. Most of their friends are divorced. There doesn't seem to be any hope!

And its not as simple as 'don't get married', why is marriage any different to just a relationship that lasts forever?

I guess I just need some reassurance or hope that you can be with someone forever. I can't just think 'we could be different' because the overwhelming evidence suggests it just doesn't work.
