I think you know that I married a self-made millioniare....he earns a decent living (as do I) but he had a lot more saved than me when we met.....he offered to put 1/2 money down on our house when we met ($350K) and asked that if, when I received my inheritance, that I would also put any large sum of money towards the house. I agreed.
Both of my parents died this year, and my sister and I are the executrixes of the estate. It looks like the amount we will inherit will be close to $200K (or $100K each).
I think you all know that even though I work 4 days per week, my H expects me to do all the housework on Fridays...I've learned to keep up and do a good job and the one or two times I've suggested a housekeeper (once a month?) he's blown up at me.
Literally
To the point where I never wanted to bring up the situation again.
On a "groupon" I "bought" a one time service for $59. I paid for it with my own "disposable" income (I get to keep 10% of what I make, 80% goes to "our joint account" from which he pays our bills and 10% goes to my IRA. This setup was "his" idea.)
I had the house "professionally" cleaned through this service while he was away. While it looked great, he didn't notice anything til he took a shower (which was grimey) but now looks spectacular.
He asked me about it.
I told him THE TRUTH. That I PAID FOR IT WITH MY OWN FUNDS....AND WANTED TO SURPISE HIM WHEN HE GOT HOME FROM HIS TRIP.
He didnt' say anything but didn't blow up.
I'm thinking of "earmarking" $5K from my inheritance to use towards cleaning services on a monthly basis.
I feel like if I mention it to him...he'd blow up at me.
Am I wrong to insist that some of my inheritance money go to cleaning services?
