My wife always answers my question with a question

Can readers please explain why my wife will only answer a question (about our relationship) with a question. She has done this for years/decades. Our married life has been in suspended animation for decades. I am living abroad for altruistic purposes which has given me much time to think and I asked her (via email) why, in the past, we had spent so little time just sitting and talking. Her answer (exactly as I expected and so typical of her) is "if you think about you can answer your own question". Even after I have been 2 years away from home she still can not answer a straight question with a straight reply. Typical of all her replies indicates that she thinks she has the answer (and to any other question I could have asked her) but will not tell me. Is she avoiding the answers herself.Is she trying to prove how superior she is, knowing answers to which I only have questions? Why is she like this?
