Since they live on the other end of the country we have never really been in contact, but the family has been reuniting for the holiday season after many years of being at war basically (over business).
But yes, I saw her, and the chances of her looking exactly alike the way my ex did (when my ex was her at age at 16) is uncanny. To be both mixed and to look so similar, the chances of that are negligible, but life works in a funny way. I regret missing her and the younger sibling's life.
The cousin (her father) was in and out of my life when I was younger and I sometimes saw the two girls, but I would never think that we would never see each other again really. It's all quite upsetting really, for a family feud to spin out of control like that. I don't think my cousin (her father) ever got over his sister dying at home , even at more than 35 years ago now, I think he just felt it better to leave the whole family behind and start anew.
But yeah, it is just a bit of an awkward situation to be in. In my head: "Hi, how have you been all these years? By the way you look exactly like my ex.. here's a picture".
Put the internet to work for you.
