I THINK she likes me, but how to proceed?

Hey guys, I've worked with this girl for a few years now. Never felt for her in a relationship kinda way until this past month or so - she always had a boyfriend. She just now told me she recently split up with him, and I know it may be early but I really want to be with her, I don't wanna miss out - no doubt there'll be a queue of guys trying to get with her as well. She is amazing. I'm pretty average I guess and stuck in this dead end job, whereas she's off to Uni and likely to bigger, better things. Why would she want to be with me? She does talk to me, laughs a bit, flirts I think (not really sure what it is). We've got a work night out coming up soon and she's asked me a few times if I'm going. Also some questions about my height and if I'd be OK with a shorter girl (she's not short but I guess a little compared to me). Were these to gauge my interest or something? I'm thinking of just asking her soon if she'd wanna hang out one day before this work night out (as it may be a bit tricky with all other work colleagues there), would this be a good idea? I'm really shy... How to phrase it and what places to suggest? Sorry guys I'm just clueless, I've never had a girlfriend and still a virgin.
