If your boyfriend sent you a message saying "one of my ex's just facebooked me then started asking me how my life is" what would you make of it? I just replied "oh" because I didn't really know what he expected me to say and didn't want to ask questions. I don't have any reason to be suspicious, but I don't really like the idea of them chatting, and I don't see why she would randomly look him up and start talking to him. It has been several years since they went out.
