How to Get a Valid Prenup

I constantly see suggestions to get a valid prenup. Well there are certain general rules you must follow in most states. They include: 1. Each party must have a separate lawyer, preferably matrimonial lawyers who are familiar with prenups and the laws of the state in which you will be living. 2. The lawyer must do some consulting with his/her client 3. Must be present well in advance of the wedding. No springing at the last moment 4. It must be voluntarily entered into 5. Full disclosure of assets by both parties 6. It must be fair. It cannot leave the other party destitute 7. The longer you are married, the more likely a judge will not enforce it. It is best to review it every few years (no more than 10) Remember each state has its own requirements. Hope this helps. WWHT
