Foreign university, girlfriend at home

So I've just finished Year 11 and am starting to consider uni options. It's been recommended by teachers for me to look at US universities because I'm still uncertain whether to go down a maths/physics sort of path or study music, and the US gives better opportunities for broader studies.

Now I've got a girlfriend who I love to pieces. We've been together for about a year and a bit and I know that it sounds cliché and naïve but I really believe we'll have a long future together.

Studying in the US for her isn't an option, so that is making me feel really reluctant to go. However, the rational part of my mind is saying that it's foolish to rule out US universities on the assumption that we'll still be together in 2 years when we've only been together for a bit over a year now. I'm supposed to be going on a trip to visit a few US colleges this October, but am really reluctant to go; I feel it would be a waste of money as I wouldn't want to study there anyway if it would spell the end of our relationship.

Which part of my brain is right? Should I go to visit the uni's and risk wasting money if I don't want to leave her if we're still together in 2 years or should I just look at UK unis instead?
