Is it really only the the minority of 17 year old girls that are virgins?

My friend made a really interesting comment today; she said "it's amazing how your still a virgin at 17" when I asked her why she said "because most girls have lost it by 17". I didn't know whether to be offended or what, i completely disagreed with what she was saying and told her that "probably half of girls you think aren't virgins are virgins but just don't tell anyone" This isn't the first time she's done this, she always makes comments that are very degrading, she tries to act like a mother hen to me, she has this "I've done it all and you've done **** all" type of attitude.. but in a nice, two faced, snidy way. It's funny, because she has only ever been able to meet people from over the internet, and she lost her's to someone who her friend had arranged her to have sex with- because she was desperate to lose it. I'm not being vain in the slightest because I actually have very low self esteem and never believe in myself ever but, i could probably have lost mine easily by now. I get a lot of (unwanted) attention and a few pretty fit lads have wanted to go out with me/flirted with me in the past but im too shy to ever act upon it. I'm just waiting for the right lad to come along. I'm mature and have my head well and truly screwed on, so her comment really didn't phase me in the slightest, I just found it interesting how she can think this is the case? Or are most girls at 17 not virgins and i'm just being naïve in my thinking?
