Hi, me and my Hubby are thinking of moving to Europe. Any comments? Any Americans with spouse from EU that have done that?
Basically the reason is non-existing social benefit (here in U.S. where we live), we are both considered "part time and temp, although doing our jobs for years now and this situation is upsetting. We are mid 20's and early 30's so no sweet benefit that baby boomers get, so if you are 50+ your situation is likely very different than ours.
I am few classes away from bachelors in hotel&restaurant management, he has bachelors in Latin&Greek (classical humanities from Wisconsin *******) also he is decorated captain in the army. Right now inactive though.
Comments? We are thinking U.K. or Germany. We could consider other countries, we don't prefer french speaking countries though.
We have property in USA that we are thinking of renting while settling in in Europe. The only pickle is that I as permanent resident in USA will lose my status when living and working abroad. For me it is like one way ticket, I would have to try to gain it back if we ever wanted to move back to USA.
Also, what was the rule? Americans still pay taxes even if they live abroad? I haven't done a lot of research - yet, because we just started talking about this move as an option.
Americans in EU, anyone?
