Here's the story:
My roommates (4 of them) met up to clean the apartment over the weekend. I wasn't notified, included, or even given a heads up about them planning to clean the apartment. This was deliberate- one of them (let's call him Nit) planned it without including or informing me because he dislikes me.
So, they told me that they cleaned the "majority" of the apartment- and it's now my duty to "finish" off where they left off. I'm supposed to clean the fridge, scrape all the stains off the walls, and mop the floors- which is essentially 90% of cleaning duties. The only other cleaning duties are wiping the counters. (Everybody is responsible for their own dishes, and we have a garbage rotation in place.) And here's the funny part: they claimed to have spent 5 hours cleaning the apartment.
Realistically, does this make any sense? Do you think it's fair? Four roommates meeting up and purposely ignoring and excluding the fifth roommate, and then telling that fifth roommate to clean up whatever they didn't clean up- which involves a great deal of cleaning. To me, it sounds like they've schemed up to purposely try and get me to clean the entire apartment myself.
What's the best way to approach and deal with this? What would you say or do? Now they claim they are going to tell the landlord that I don't do any cleaning and I'm responsible for the apartment's horrendous state- but this is so far from the truth. And of course, there's the fact that they didn't inform me that they'd be cleaning the apartment. I'm in such a tough situation right now. Nit and one of the other roommates are best friends so they're both trying to work together to screw me over.
Additional Info:
I asked one of the four roommates why I wasn't aware or informed that they'd be meeting up to clean the apartment, and he responds back with, "I personally didn't know you wouldn't be at the apartment." I wasn't even given a heads up though. Shortly after, Nit sends me a text telling me that he spent his Saturday cleaning up 99% of the apartment independently. He told me to "Grow up and accept your responsibility."
Put the internet to work for you.
