How long did you take to grieve over a family member (mum)?

My mum is terminally ill and I can tell she is at her ending days now, she's been sedated as the cancer has got really bad. She's only 47 which breaks my heart :(
I'm 15 at the moment, in the middle of my Gcse's and I was wondering how long the grieving process would take as I am starting 6th form in September and wouldn't want to keep feeling so sad,people asking me questions or thinking I'm strange/weird.
How long did you take to grieve?
