Advice needed on boyfriend :(

My boyfriend of 18months is usually lovely and sweet to me. :) However, he has a very short temper and will snap at me if something doesn't go his way. He has referred to me as 'a nightmare' to others, and has said multiple times to me that 'he's sick of having to handle me' and I'm 'impossible to deal with'. He also tells another girl, who he is very good friends with, that I annoy him. He usually is only this nasty after I've asked him to sort his temper out, or have asked him not to discuss our relationship in such a one sided way :( He used to be so much nicer, and most of the time is a lovely guy. I don't tell my friends because I don't want others to think badly of him however, I cant help feeling a burden, and he will willingly reduce me to tears and still carry on calling me ridiculous or embarrassing or annoying or any number of things. I don't know how to solve this, please help, it's making me miserable, am I over reacting? It's my first long term relationship
