Why was she being awkward?

Went to the pub with mates. girl was with 5 guys, anyway, I kept noticing that she kept looking in my direction, I kept looking at her, she kept looking at me. Anyway, she gets up, was wearing the French flag around her, and as she walks past, we keep looking at each other, so I go: "ARE YOU FRENCH?" I was quite drunk. She smiles and goes no. And walks off. Even though it was blatantly obv she was French. Why didn't she chat. I was left thinking , what was that all about. Thanks.
