Why are university girls so addicted to alcohol?

I see university girls in my town and instead of studying for exams or trying to build their future , theyre staggering around drunk and passing out in their own vomit. Why do girls go to university when they obviously just dont care? Why are they addicted to alcohol? Is it genetic?
