Hugging guys around the waist or neck?

Okay, so I thought I knew how to give hugs, then I saw this thread (http://www.thestudentroom.co.uk/show....php?t=2273362) where lots of people said hugging round the neck was pretty intimate. So girls - would you only hug a crush/boyfriend round the neck and guy friends round the waist? And would you say neck is more intimate? And guys - do you prefer to be hugged around the neck or waist? And if a girl hugged you round the neck would you think she may like you?
