Asking her out

ok so there's this girl at uni that I like but I am in the year above her and have graduated so i never get to see her in person. Anw I was seeing some friends at uni a month ago and saw the girl i liked and got talking. It turned out that she was going away for a bit and i asked if she wanted to hang out when she comes back. She said "Yeah.. I might be busy when I come back but yeah" Anw she's now back and she texted me asking for some course stuff (that she doesnt really need). I say no, sorry I cant give it out and she goes "thats ok nw, how's it going?" i dont really bother having a conversation cos i dont like small talk by text but the conversation was ok and this was a few days ago. My question is how should I ask her out? Should i start a new conversation, or just text her saying do you wanna meet up or should i phone her..
