I didn't want to hijack the anti-gay thread by getting too far off topic, but I thought "unbelievable" made a good post concerning the Duck Dynasty guy who made the anti-gay comments, and i wanted to respond.
I think your post describes things well. It seems like in this day and age, many people claim to be a Christian, but they just kinda practice as much of it as makes them comfortable. The big thing these days is Love. We are just supposed to love everybody so much that we are all free to do what we want and call it good. Nothing but joy is supposed to be mentioned at church services. Well, didn't God himself become angry with people's wickedness and destroy everyone with a great flood? Didn't God show anger toward people not doing his teachings in the Bible? Didn't he bring hardship upon some people to try to get them to change their wicked ways?
I hear some people say they are religious and go to church, but they aren't into the "fire and brimstone" stuff. Well, isn't that part of it? When did we get to leave that part behind? Maybe nobody sins anymore, so that can be forgotten.
Of course, we live in a modern age, so things are different. Right? I'm still looking, but I can't find the book of the Bible that explains at what point we could leave behind the fire and brimstone part or start accepting things that were once considered wrong.
I'm just saying, I respect people who believe in something and their actions and words display their belief instead of changing it to suit their comfort level or to be politically correct.

A true Christian, a true Jew, or a true Muslim doesn't live their life according to the whims of their own opinions. We have lots of posers, who profess to be one thing but live and act another way; who profess to live according to certain values and standards but accept (and often participate in) every manner of wrong-doing. It's refreshing to me to see an American who actually behaves like he believes in something. Go to the Middle East. I had to fight a few of them, but I had to respect their religion. Islam was apparent in every greeting, every transaction, their dress, their diet, etc. They did not apologize for their beliefs nor endeavor to conceal them. Most Americans I know behave as though they believe in nothing. |
