How green is the grass?

I've been considering a divorce for a while, but I've also had doubts that I'm just fantizising over a more glamourous lifestyle. I keep seeing/reading advice that says "If you want to leave, don't ask for advice or wait for the right time, just go!!!" But that sounds awfully hasty. What pitfalls am I not seeing? If you have gone through the divorce process, you have undoubtedly discovered things that you didn't know while you were still married. Is there anything you can share with those of us still in the consideration process? Thank you
