Recently I've been doing some research on Narcissism. My father is a full blown Narcissist and has done some serious damage to myself, my mom and my brother.
For the first time in my life I'm beginning to understand how sick and scary my father was. When you grow up with abuse you don't know what non-abuse feels like. Although my parents divorced when I was young and my father left the home he still abused me with threats and financial withholding.
I'm learning about this disorder and I see some of the traits in myself (unfortunately). I think a lot of my non-existant self-esteem is due to my upbringing and I'm trying to heal.
