Friends won't take my relationship seriously

I'm 20 and have recently started going out with a guy from the same Uni. We've been going out since before new year. We share the same group as friends (from the same society which has over 100 members) my housemates are also from the same society so there's quite a few people who we both know. When we announced our relationship people were happy for us but a lot aren't, for example whenever he comes round to my house my housemates find our relationship really funny. We went in the kitchen together to cook and when we walked out into the lounge my other housemates (who were in the kitchen with us) started laughing really loudly. They talk about us too I'm not sure exactly what they say but it always involves loads of laughter. Like when we're on the sofa holding hands they start laughing. When we go to the society there's a few people who laugh when our nam es are mentioned. I'm not sure what's funny about it at all. We're 2 people who really like each other. Any idea how to deal with this? I thought the initial shock would die down after a week or two but this behaviour is still going on and we've been going out 2 months (only announced it a month ago though we were dating secretly before that).
