Met boy in bar, talk regularly but he lives far away, what do I do?

  • Thread Starter

I met a guy in a bar a few months back when I was at uni but he was only down for a few days to visit his friend.

Anyway, we got talking, I was rather drunk and don't remember much of the conversation all I knew is that it was pretty brief and that he was probably the nicest male I had ever spoken to. We exchanged numbers and have been conversing ever since through text and phonecalls. We like the same bands, movies and tv programmes and share a lot of the same opinions. I have never felt that I have so much in common with someone of the opposite sex before despite having been in a long term relationship and seeing several people as well as obviously having male friends.

However, there's a problem, he wants to see me soon but we live far away from eachother. There isn't a problem with seeing him at all, my problem is the feelings I/him or both of us could develop upon seeing eachother properly and the distance thus becoming a barrier. Although at the moment our conversation is strictly platonic I feel that since we share a similar personality and have the same interests it's likely there will be chemistry.

I already have a bit of a soft spot for this guy but I know that probably nothing will ever come of it so I'm torn. I don't know if I should start speaking less with him and eventually end contact before I get myself in too deep or meet him and just see where it goes. Afterall, it could be that sober and face-to-face I only see him as a friend. I feel a bit of an idiot for even having slight feelings toward this guy, he likes speaking to me but it could be just that, he hasn't inferred that he's interested.

Also I'm not looking for anything serious at all just yet, it's a case of unwanted feelings really, I just need general advice on how you'd handle this kind of situation.

Thanks :-)
