Guy wants breakup because girl wears a lot of makeup. What is your opinion on this?

My best friend's boyfriend just moments ago calls her up after spotting a picture of her on Facebook of out Saturday night out and complains about her make up. She has to chose between wearing little or no makeup and him.
What do you think? Is the guy out of his mind? Jealous? Or just am excuse for a breakup??
