Are some people predisposed to dislike people who are more attractive than them?

I have a close relative who seems to make loathsome comments about other females who are likely to be considered physically attractive by most.

It frustrates me when she says nasty things about other women, or just shows a general dislike. The common denominator is that these women are always aesthetically pleasing.

Does anyone ever notice attitudes of contempt toward attractive people, from people of the same gender?
