Since it's rare that a man (but they do exist) is the one who actually brings up the marriage topic and expresses himself, I can imagine it must be very hurtful if it's really the woman that's not ready and doesn't want to marry him.
Most of the times, young women are adviced by friends and family to break up if their men they're most likely living together won't propose but what if a man does propose and woman says no?
