Men, would you marry...

...a female attorney?

I would prefer a bit of honesty and not wishy washy answers of 'it depends on her as a person.' You can probably find a Mother Theresa/Martha Stewart/Jenna Jameson lawyer somewhere. I am not talking about her.

I would not take that risk personally and it was debated quite a bit on the net in places. Female lawyers find it incredibly difficult to date, not just from their job demands but also because of stereotypes.

I think one of the largest 'issues' I would have with marrying (not dating) an attorney is that the work induced stress would cause more rifts in the relationship than many other jobs and that in the event of divorce, it would frankly be catastrophic for the man who married her.

She knows everything about you fiscally and emotionally and would point her shark in exactly the right direction to put the screws in painfully.

Now, yes men face that from ANY wife...but most women don't think like lawyers so there is a certain amount of things overlooked. Not to mention that litigators are trained to WIN at all costs.

I for one would prefer not to pay that price.

How long did it take for you to get over the " sex " part of the affair?

I'm curious. As you know one of the hardest parts of dealing with infidelity is the " mind movies " as some call it. Knowing your partner had sex with someone else and then came home like nothing happened.

Finding these details out can make one feel disgusting and can be a huge blow to your esteem and respect and make you look at your partner in a different light. It does for me.

Did some of you ever get over it? If so, how long did it take?

"Proper" dating.

Recently divorced. I did date someone during entire divorce process. Woke up one morning and decided to end it.

I think that was the right long term move.

Thinking it would be quite a while before anyone was actually interested in dating me I asked someone out that I knew through work (not at my work, someone that works with company mine is associated with). She said yes and we have been out 4 times in the last few weeks.

Here is the problem. About the same time I fired up an online dating profile and met 3-4 ladies that expressed interest in going out. I have gone out with girl 2 once and girl 3 twice.

I have date with girl 3 a weeknight this week.

I am in no rush to jump into bed with any of them but 2 of them are already dropping major hints, one is being very forward and blunt about it.

So far it is early enough with all 3 that I think I am OK in going out once or twice more with all of them. If I have to make a choice I think it should be an informed decision.

There has been no talk between us about dating other people but when I tell them "I have next Tuesday free" wouldn't that kind of lead you to believe I'm busy the other days for a reason?

Not sure how to handle this. In one way I do not want to use any of them. In another how can I make good decision on 4 hours of getting to know someone. In another way if they are being the sexual aggressor and I have not pushed or promised anything am I doing anything wrong if we wind up in bed?

Help.

In Retrospect, I regret exposure.

Please no flaming, this is just food for thought. I'm an anonymous internet user with a ****ty life, giving you my feelings about how I dealt with my situation and how I feel later so you can maybe avoid some pitfalls. Doesn't mean I think I'm right, or wrong. Just that, I regret exposure, and maybe you will too, so read this and think first.

Stbx had an EA (that he admitted to, and backtracked on), I suspect more but for me an EA was enough damage. We attempted therapy and R but it was never sincere on his part. He hurt me and shut me down a lot. Things even got physical between us, I actually hit him when he spit on me one day. Things got very ugly and very heated super quick. In his attempt to justify his actions, he blamed me, my weight, he never loved me, if he cared he'd never have done what he'd done, etc. And what I didn't realize was he kept blaming me. Even when he blamed himself, he blamed me. And then I exploded. I exposed him to everyone I could because I wanted it to end, and I wanted to hurt him by exposing that he was a cheating lying bastard. Which is how I felt about him then. I wanted sole custody, I was disgusted at the thought of him. Etc. No need for all the details here, if you're going through CWI, you know how this goes.

Point is, every few days, I'd wake up and figure, what the hell happened to me and my life? How did i become a Jerry Springer show? Like, exposing him to family and friends in an effort to stop this and to turn on the light just hurt him and alienated both of us from our friends. I feel like ****. Maybe he is a piece of crap and maybe he deserved to be exposed. And he had no right to cheat, but people **** up all the time. I had no right to shame someone who used to be the love of my life one day in the public way I did. I understand why I did it, I was hurt and rejected and mad and angry. I felt justified then, but now I feel like ****. The guilt is eating me up. I realize our relationship was something that would've been worth saving, and he didn't want to save it. And I'm worth a man who wants to save it. I'm beautiful (starting to believe it, anyway), I'm a good mom, a good cook, a decent person, a hardworking person, a decent friend. I deserve someone who loves me. And I think most of us who are exposing and trying to R think we don't. That we deserved the cheating somehow and the half-ass love. You deserve more. And so do they (more than the shaming I mean, because you married them at one point. That means at one point, you thought they were good people). No matter what their reasons for cheating (sex addiction, *******ness, etc), their cheating was wrong. But, is it really an indication that they are overall ****ty people? Trust me, this more peaceful thought took about a year to come by, so it's not like I'm pretending to be Mother Theresa here.

Point is. Yes, exposure might help end the affair. But it's messy and you'll probably alienate a lot of people. If your spouse is cheating, move out. In my case, that wasn't possible. But in most cases, you can. Move in with a friend, relative, motel, hostel, convent. Something. I wish I did.

For me, the exposure wasn't worth it. Because i live daily with the guilt. Exposing him to our friends was good for the moment, I felt like I won. But who gives a ****. He was abusive during our relationship (verbally and mentally) and after this bitterness I realized it and exposed that too. Point is, he ****ed up. Bad. But I ruined his chances with his support system just so I validate that he wasn't good. I think we all know, if your spouse cheats, they're not good for you at that time. That doesn't mean they're evil, or bad, just going through a bad time, or a bad phase, and they're hurting you. You need to decide wether this is a one time thing you need to forgive and can forgive, or if this is the light you needed to expose the fact that the relationship wasn't good anyway and it was time to move on. Now that the dust is settling on mine, I feel OK with this ending. The romantic in me wanted this to work, but the realist realizes, he was never good. He was and is withh olding and judgmental, and I need a different kind of man. Without the affair, I'd never have realized that I was OK to feel the way I did, and that I did deserve better. So while the affair feels like the worst thing to have ever happened to you, and trust me it will for a while, it might not be. It might be your saving grace out of a crap relationship. Just don't ruin everything around you in the meantime.

Hugs to you, this journey sucks.

partner addicted to chat

Hi everyone, I don't know where to go from here.

A few months ago I happened to look at my partners phone as it was flashing, to find that he had been on a chat forum, chatting to multiple women, mostly flirty and explicit cyber sex. I confronted him, he said nothing at all and we did not speak for several days. He voluntarily stopped using his phone for a few months, I did not ask him too, and no doubt he would have found this difficult. On a recent trip home to visit family (we moved interstate for work) I went to log into my FB and discovered a secondary FB account which he said he used for programs etc he didn't want to use his normal account for, this account has no FB friends. A couple of nights ago I went on his computer and saw on this FB account the only application was a chat site, which I found again he was chatting to women both flirty and explicit cyber sex. He was asleep at the time and I slept in the spare bedroom. He woke up in the morning completely panicked wanting to know what was wrong. When I confronted him about it, this time he lied and said it was old chat, but I knew this was a lie as I had seen the chat was last used 6 hours ago. After a silence he admitted that he has a problem with chat, he used to chat before we were together and started again 6 months ago. He said it was nothing to do with me. I said I don't know that I will ever be able to trust him again, he agreed. Since then we have not talked and have not been sleeping in the same bed. He has not done anything besides watch tv. I don't know where to go from here. I don't want to go through the pain of separation, it will be difficult as I will have to move back home, quite likely with my parents for awhile, our families and friends will be very upset, BUT I also don't want to stay in a relationship with a person that clearly doesn't respect me and care for me how he should. He also said that he knew I would find out. Advice please!

At a loss!

My husband and I got married rather quickly. He's cheated a few times and so have I but at the beginning before we had our children. We've had a lot of issues with his ex girlfriend and his child with her. The ex is certifiably insane but he lets her get away with threatening me and our children & I've had to tell him he's not allowed to bring his other child to our home because she's violent towards our young children. He allows the bad behavior and I won't let my kids be kicked, pushed, or bullied. That's a HUGE problem in our relationship. It's the lack of backbone just amazes me and makes me angry. How can he allow his child with his ex do that to an INFANT? How can he let his ex act that way towards his WIFE and KIDS? He is very strict with our young kids but lets his child who is fully capable of following rules and knowing better than to hit ANYONE let alone someone who is 4 years younger and much more fragile. Recently, I found a number in his wallet and it was his other ex... the one he's cheated on me with before. It was from when we separated a while back but the fact he still had it really hurt my feelings. I think it hurt even worse because when I left all he said was how much he wanted things to work and how he loved me and the kids. Yet, he's out getting his exes number and hiding it from me? What makes it worse is they work together. I'm literally sick to my stomach from all this. I'm not sure how much more I can take. His ex makes my life hell, his child with her stresses me out to the point I have panic attacks when she is here, I'm constantly wondering if hes cheating on me with his ex or another person at work. I've lost a lot of feelings towards him... I feel very disconnected and unhappy. I'm young and haven't worked due to back to back high risk pregnancies and his request for me NOT to work (daycare costs, stress levels, etc) and I'm scared to be out on my own with 2 young children and no fami ly anywhere near to help.

I don't know if it's worth working on anymore... I just need help.

I think Im about to break up with my first love

We met in first year of university, she was 5 years older and from Italy on erasmus exchange. I fell deeply in love and so did she. We told ourselves we wouldn't do a long distance relationship when she went back to Italy but neither of us could resist and we had a very nice time. She came to me and I came to her. Just before our first year anniversary I had a horrible pang in my stomach that I no longer loved her.

I tried to shake it, I tried to avoid it, ignore it, I scrutinized over it. I did everything I could to try love her again. I told myself it was because we were apart, but I felt the same when we were together. She's such a beautiful, kind, caring, compassionate person, and we had such a nice time together which is what makes this so hard. She was the purest thing in my life, but now anytime I think of her I feel sad. I don't know what it is.

I dont want to do this, but deep down I know I have to. Im flying to Italy on thursday and Im gonna tell her. Then I'll enter the worst period of my life so far, and every wonderful magic feeling I've had over the past year will be replaced with the opposite for a long time. I'm already arranging sessions with a counsellor, and I'm genuinely worried I might never fully recover.

How do I deal with this, how on earth can I do this? We dont even fight, I dont think we've ever had a fight. On the surface it seems so wonderful and yet for the past two months I've just felt like crap. Last time I saw her she had some idea I felt like crap but I blamed it on exam stress. It wasn't exam stress at all. The fact that I have to go to Italy to do it makes it even worse, Im flying there and she has no idea that Im booking a flight to go back the very next day. Or should I stay for a few days to work her through it? Or what can I do to make it easier for her? I want to make it as easy for her as it can possibly be, even at the expense of my own sanity. Someone help me, I feel like Im sinking here

Does this girl have a problem with me or is it in my head?

My boyfriend is good friends with a couple, a boy and a girl, and is especially very close with the guy. They all live quite close, and I live quite far away.
I only really properly met them when I started going out with him (1 year ago) and I have seen the guy once since, but not the girl.
When I first got with my boyfriend, the couple were really happy for us. We all met up and the girl was saying how nice we are together, and I added her on facebook, and she was liking my pictures and stuff. She invited me and my boyfriend to her place another time, but we could not make it sadly. I talked to her on facebook a bit and she was generally really friendly.
However, since then, she seems to completely ignore me, and I have no idea what I am supposed to have done. My boyfriend came to stay near me to do a work placement for a few months, so he did not see them at all at this time. Her boyfriend commented on a photo of us, so I struck up a friendly conversation with him, and we exchanged a couple of messages; just very general stuff, about work, talking about my boyfriend, asking how his girlfriend was, and that is all, and then it stopped after a couple of messages.
When my boyfriend was due to leave, I thought it would be a cool idea to organise a kind of welcome back party for him (as I was going to stay with him as well at first) so I sent the girl a message asking what she thought, if it seemed a good idea, etc. But I never heard back from her, and have still never had any kind of response, and this was months ago. I know she saw the message because of the ´seen´ feature on facebook.
She no longer likes or comments on my pictures like she used to either. I could say she is busy but she is on facebook quite a lot, always commenting on stuff, uploading pictures etc.
When I went to stay with him when he first went back, they knew I was there, and my boyfriend suggested all doing something, but they never proposed anything. Then, after I left, they invited him to theirs.
I have been there a few times, and they must know every time I am there (my boyfriend sees the guy every day so he obviously finds out through that) but I have never been invited or they have never asked to see me.
One day they were both free, and then my boyfriend was supposed to be told what time we should go and see them, but we never heard. Then, his friend claimed he did not know I was here, but I did not believe this.
I have seen the male friend since, as I have mentioned, and he is very nice and friendly to me. I do not think it is him, but I feel like the girl has a problem with me.
My boyfriend has even said she can be very bitchy and a nasty person, and apparently she even admits it herself. I just do not understand why she seems to ignore me now, I literally did nothing at all to her or to him. Does it sound like she has a problem, or am I just being paranoid? just find it rude they could not even make the effort to meet for 1 hour, after all of the times I have been there.

Ex is making accusations?

My ex were on bad terms because we were that, exes. She starts seeing some guy. She then texts me to say she'd had an email from someone, forwarding an email supposedly from her boyfriend. She forwards me the email. The email talks about stuff in this guy's life, like someone a friend would know, then say's how he doubts going into a relationship with my ex - though no names are mentioned. She tells me the details pretty much match up to him, but she's adamant it isn't him. She later texts me to say she's had another one that's worse than the previous one, but she doesn't show me it. She then tells me her boyfriend called things off with her. She starts texting me more, and we become on good terms again, as friends.

Today she tells me her boyfriend got back with her. I tell her am pleased for her. I then later get a text saying "I can't believe you've done this to me". I text her asking what I've done, and tried calling. Then then texts me to say it wasn't for me, but then asks me to swear I haven't been emailing her, as the latest email is stuff she's told me. I haven't seen this 'new email', and I swear to her. I then tell her to block the emails, she then says she doesn't need my help and she can deal with it herself.

What the hell? Why is she asking if it's me? First of all, I've never met her boyfriend in my life, let alone know anything about him, and now she's being really weird with me and asking if I've been emailing her? I said if she needs to text am here, but she didn't respond. I give up.

I don't know what to do

It all started when I was 17. Basically, my mum found out that my dad had an affair, but she never left him for the sake of me and my brother. Their relationship was evidently strained after that, and I hated their attitudes around each other, especially my mum's. She would always insinuate that my dad was still having the affair, e.g. making a point of checking his texts in front of all of us and asking where he was going, who he was calling etc. I hated it even though I know that she was right to, but it still made me really angry at the time, and it got to the point where I wanted to kill myself as the ultimate f--k you to both of them.

Anyway, I suffered from a short period of depression, and postponed going to university until I was 22. There, I met a guy and we started a relationship. I'm 26 now, and he proposed to me about a week ago. I straight out told him that I couldn't make the decision immediately, and I haven't seen or spoken to him since as I'm trying to figure things out. It was a wake up call really, because it really made me think about whether or not I want to do this. I love him more than anything, but I don't feel like I could go through with marriage because my parents have made me believe that marriage is something that could end up with terrible consequences. I have told my mum about his proposal, and she is adamant that I don't say yes, and I know that she thinks marriage ruins everything. I do love him, but I'm now thinking that perhaps he's better off with someone who is willing to wholly dedicate herself to him as opposed to someone like me. He is a good person, and I don't want him to be in a marriage where his wife is forever lacking the complete trust that a marriage should have. What do you think I should do?

Is it wrong to be over complimenting to a girl?

Is it wrong to be over complimenting to a girl? I'll admit I'm a nice guy and I say nice things to a girl I met on the Internet know she said its annoying and I want to understand why being nice is wrong. Before when we first started talking online she said I was different to her friends and I was nicer than the, and she liked that. Why would she change her mind? I want to be plutonic friends with her don't friends says nice things to each other? Even if we were in a relationships din't couples say nice things to each other?
