Why do men claim they don't like needy women?

I've often heard that "Men are turned off by needy women." The terms I believe are "too clingy, obsessive, demanding etc."

Of course these same men also are very controlling and expect women to do what they want when they want. However, if the woman wants to assert her needs she is deemed "pathetic."
