I do believe that the U.S. needs to be active in foreign policy. But that activity should stop at the point where we no longer try to intervene in the affairs of other countries. Maybe I'm naive, but prior to the U.S. become active nation builders and meddlers in the affairs of other nations, we were respected by most countries and had good economic relationships with almost everyone. I believe we used to be respected by the Arab world because of what we used to stand for while the Europeans were held in scorn because of colonialism combined with arbitrarily drawing boarders that created powder kegs in the region. The day we started becoming power brokers in the region and decided to use the Middle East as pawns in a chess game against the USSR instead of treating them as true allies, we lost a lot of respect in that part of the world plus became like hypocrites when it came to notions like liberty, rugged individualism and American ideals in general. Maybe I'm just a naive Libertarian, but I truly believe that for the U.S. to have good relationships with most of the world, we need to take a more hands off approach and allow sectors of the world to deal with their own private affairs. | |||

America can't (shouldn't) fight all of the evils of the world
