Does male hairstyle matter?

  • Thread Starter

Assuming the hair is clean and not thinning, does it matter what style the person has? Would you take hairstyle into consideration when dating guys?

E.g. If two similar guys, one with a basic 1 minute side-part and one with a perfect 20 minute quiff asked you out, which one would you choose?

She was very upset and I feel like an idiot.

  • Thread Starter

A girl in my A level year asked to meet me today and when I met her I could tell she was very upset she told me she felt very lonely and not included in things and then started crying into my chest and hugging me. Needless to say I realise what a fool I have been for not realising that just because I am popular and everything is going great for me, others might not be as happy. I told her, me and my friends would make more of an effort to include her and we will start sitting with her at lunch and walking with her. Nonetheless, I was an idiot and is there anything else I can do to make her feel more included?

Teacher found out Iike him... And acts odd

  • Thread Starter

Quick note: Nothing between myself and this teacher is going to happen! And I understand how serious this could be etc

He wasn't meant to find out but my friends (idiots) thought it would be 'funny'. So he's around 23 Years of age and I myself am in year 11. He doesn't teach me however his classroom is next door and I do go to his classes after school.

As soon as my friends turned my face to him and said 'You know you like him, look at him' he immediately looked away. (He never even noticed me before this)

Anyway later on during the same lesson, he walked past again and while he did, he looked at me straight in the eye for a good few seconds with a grumpy face before looking away. I could actually feel how annoyed he must have been.

The next time I saw him after that day was when I had to go past his class with a few class members. He was in the middle of talking and I could see him turning to look at us and then keep his eyes on me until I was out of sight (I could see this from the corner of my eyes).

This became a regular thing and I still had to attend his sessions because I had to act like everything was still normal. When I entered he just saw me and looked down (same grumpy face lol)

My friend began to ask him to give me a new clay canvass and he came up to us and asked what's wrong (my friend did all the talking since things were awkward between myself and him) and he asked her why I needed a new one and she answered 'just' and so he looked at me and asked the same question 'What's wrong with it?' (He believed there was nothing wrong with it and it is still ok to use) and I responded with 'There's nothing wrong with it' since I personally thought my friend was being ridiculous. However he started to laugh with me and said 'Exactly, she's just going on and on!'

Later on I asked him for more clay so he got up and gave me some new clay as any teacher would. After that lesson when me and my friend decided to call it a day, he turned around and said 'Bye! Thanks for coming again' and looked at both of us, however when he looked at me he smiled the most warmest smile I've ever seen. I know it was real as he had some crows feet going on at the end of his eyes. So when I responded with a bye and was too shy to smile back ,he then called out bye once more before I left.

I saw him again about 30 minutes later in my mums car (she popped out to the shop) he was walking home and I was playing on my phone so I didn't see him before. Just as soon as I looked up I saw him turn around looking directly towards my car and at me through the window screen (he must have saw the car first before recognising me) and I looked away nervously and he just turned away again and carried on walking.

I have also caught him stare at me through a reflective window that I was facing whilst I had my back turned towards him, so he thought I couldn't see. And I mean he was full on staring, until he remembered the window and when he saw me staring at him, he looked away really quickly.

Another time was when he was speaking to another member of staff and I stopped to look behind him in case I could quickly tip toe across since it was a short cut to a class (however we are not allowed to take that root). He saw me stop and when I did he just stopped talking to the other woman (member of staff) and just stopped to look at me (maybe he thought I needed to speak to him) however he was literally in the middle of a convo and he just... Stopped. She noticed his attention went off completely so she turned to look and saw me standing there now staring back at him #awkward.

He he carried on staring at me and she was stood their looking confused looking at him then me and then back again. Until I decided to take the long root after all and walked another way.

After this, I've noticed this woman staring at me. And I know she is suspicious now because she was even staring when I was walking home with my friends and she was on a car at the back seat. She was really staring and I even said to my friends 'What is she staring at?'

This teacher has started to tease me a little as well (my crush) and it's probably not in a flirtatious way. He just laughs at me if I do something stupid like when I entered the room for his after school sessions and he turned and said 'Hi girls!'
To myself and my friend and I responded with a hi. Then he asked if I was staying and since I just came back from an exam so I was a little headed and I hadn't actually thought if I was staying or not yet (cuz I only planned to collect the art book but I was still uncertain) so I just hesitated a little and said 'Ummm... Yeah' He burst out laughing and said 'Why are you thinking about it for?' So I grumply responded 'What?' Since I was knackered, and he was like 'Well it's a simple question isn't it? You just say yes or no' he was still laughing and he realised I was actually grumpy he stopped.

So recently we had a mock exam and I'm not lying when I say he has been staring at me again, and then looking away like it was nothing. I've caught him at least three times looking directly at me and then turning away as soon as I notice.
One of which was a side stare to make it less obvious.

Also so I was outside the staff room one time knocking on the door and from behind someone asked 'Who are you looking for?' It was that woman again. I was looking for my Englush teacher so I asked her where she was and she said how she's 'Not in today' while we were still talking, the teacher I like appears and walks past to get into the staff room. I was next to the door that leads to the staff room so when he reached the door he stopped and took a glance at me because I began to laugh a little at something and he could hear me from under my breathe. After about a second of taking a look at my face he looked back at the door handle and opened it to make his way into the staff room.

Im finally done, let me know what you think is up with him. I forgot to add that I saw him another time in the car when My mum was driving past and noticed our car and then looked away in case I see him, then looked back again after turning around until to see us go.

I'm just trying to figure him out. Overall he's a very professional teacher.

Tips for clubs?

  • Thread Starter

I'm an 18 year old guy in my first year at uni, not the best looking lad but take care of myself appearance wise and would say that I look the best that I can.

I enjoy the whole club 'scene' but have a bit of trouble fitting in sometimes (maybe I'm being hard on myself?) - I'm pretty sure when a girl is interested but I'm awful at approaching and I wouldn't say that the lads I go there with (mainly flatmates) are the best people to be with at times so I have trouble support wise...

The other thing is I know myself I'm absolutely terrible at dancing, don't really have an idea what to do and when I do I get the vibe from others that its way excessive, could this be seen as 'gay'? (no discrimination intended at all here, and I am straight for the purpose of this discussion)

I know TSR is probably one of weirdest places to ask for this kind of advice but hey I'll give it a shot!

Do I need to cut this girl out of my life?

  • Thread Starter

There's a girl I've totally fell for, I knew her since my primary school days. I wouldn't say we were that close before but we've talked quite a lot on Facebook recently & I did meet up for a few months ago. She's so beautiful but I realised that she just doesn't see me the same way. She said I was decent enough guy & I make her laugh & stuff but still, I expressed my feelings towards her & she really didn't offer me much hope that there might be a chance really :o

In conversation she has said she still has some feelings towards her ex & well I just said you're such a sweet girl who I just want to see happy (even though deep inside it will break my heart to see her with another guy :moon:) I think about her too much & keep & looking at her photos & feels like she is connecting to me when I do it but I realise that we're just not compatible. I said something cheesy like I'd rather have you as a friend than lose you totally but now I'm not too sure as I just feel have this burning desire atm. Like you know when you really want something that you can't have? :o What do you think I should do :erm: I appreciate your time, thanks :)

My gf jus broke up with me, am I ready to be friends with her straight away?

  • Thread Starter

Tbh it's a difficult situation I mean we was only together for around 2 months the first month was great the 2nd was rocky and I could sense that this was coming so it's been like a month of preparing for it mentally at the point when it happened I was kind of already at the point where I had been through being upset about it and was at the stage of accepting it for the rocky part she was acting quite cold and distant so I didn't even really want to be in a relationship with her because she wasn't the loving girl I feel in love with anymore.

Thing is we spoke and the convo was fine we spoke for 2hrs I asked her why was she being cold and distant does she still want to be in a relationship and then she opened up and said she feels like she rushed into it she just broke up with her ex and we got together within like a week after. It was all pretty intense very quickly her telling me she loved me after 2 weeks etc so the signs and red flags were there. We spoke it over and I agreed that she wasn't in a place to be in a serious relationship we pretty much got over the serious talk pretty quickly and spent the other hour and half laughing and catching up because we hadn't spoken properly in a while because of these unresolved issues.

Tbh I gave of the impression that it was fine n that I was over it because tbh that's how I felt I mean I was expecting it she seemed kind of taken aback because I seemed fine with it tbh I didn't do that as a tactic I honestly felt fine and glad we finally aired it out. She said in the future if things are different and shes in a better place because she said she was in a lonely place after she split with her ex we cAn maybe try again I said yeah who knows the future I ain't holding my breath or holding out on that tbh because that's a recipe for disaster. But anyway I'm seeing her tomorrow she still wants us to "see each other" but not be in a relationship I don't know what that means tbh if that means she still wants us to have sex etc but without commitment tbh I'm fine with that as long as it doesn't bother me but I'm not sure if it will tbh.

I'm seeing her tomorrow she said she wants to come see me to hang out, what should I do, should I atleast try to just see her instead of cutting her of I don't really think I need to because it's not that painful and also she hasn't done anything to me or given me a reason to hate her or anything it's pretty much jus bad timing so should I give it a shot or am I just putting myself in a position to get hurt?

You will live. Trust me.

Been off of here for along time. Im checking in because when I was on here a couple years ago it was very rare to see updates of people who had went to hell and lived to tell the tale. I went thru my ex wife of 7 yrs leaving me for another man. 3 kids involved. My sons are 10,8,7 now. 3 years ago it was almost a breaking point for me. Such betreyel. So much heartache and adjustment. Went from having kids grab me as I entered the door to an empty home. Looking back I think that was the hardest. A house full of life noisey and crazyness went to so silent u could hear a mouse piss on cotton. That first year was bad. Really bad. If u are now where I was then just hang in there. It will get better. Been 3 full years since my ex wife said she loved another man. I shook his hand today. First time I saw him since everything went down. Hated him and wanted to beat him up for about 2 years. Got passed it a year ago. We never see each other because my ex lives at h er moms. He's made a point to not be around when I am. Saw him today and was very cordial. Truth is I don't give a ****. she is his problem now. I wish them nothing but the best(makes my life easier if she's happy) my kids rarely see him. He's a single guy with no kids. Kind of a good situation for him cause he and her live kidless every weekend. Bottom line is this. I got myself a good girl 2 years ago, I'm really happy. Same time I could be single and just as happy because at the end of the day **** it. If someone doesn't want u, don't fight at all. I wish I could go back in time and cut out all the begging and I love yous. If I could go back in time, I would go back to the day she told me I love someone else and I would be like "ok cool. Sounds good. Wish more than anything I had been like that and had that attitude. Whatever u are going thru you will heal. Doesn't sound good now I know. I really do. Pick yourself up and fight. The best advice I can give is to use this ti me to become who u want to be. Use it as motivation to say "I'm going to live my life and be happy" **** this. I took a rocky approach like how he had Drago on a mirror in rocky 4. I got into great shape and became stronger. I look back at my down time 3 yrs ago and actually appreciate it now. Sounds crazy even as I type but it was almost a fond time in my life. I became who I am today when I went thru that hell. For whatever strange reason I really look back and say to myself wow. I had fun thru that time period. Sure as hell didn't seem like it then but I had a few woman do walk of shames out of my house, had all night casino trips with the boys and many times that I was alone, walking the beach as the sun came up. Many drunken nights watching movies alone. All of that got me to this point. I shook the hand of a man who I was slightly friends with, that betrayed me and took my wife. And it felt great. That handshake gave me a final peace. It was the final step. To everyone out there hurting get to a point when u can forgive whoever did u wrong. U will never heal if u don't. Carrying around hate will weigh u down. Forgiving someone isn't about them, it's about you. And a necessary step if u ever want to recover. I look back on the toughest days of my life with fondness, wish I could relive them again because I really found myself. Made me who I am now. Food for thought for anyone going thru hell.... Wish I could go back in time and be just as cold as my walk away spouse and be like cool. I would give a year off my life to go back and be emotionless just like she was, cause I fought hard and cried a lot of tears. Stand tall everyone, no matter what u go thru u will be ok. It will mold u into a better person

How to become best friends?

So some couples talk about they have the friendship but not the passion. In my husband and I's case, it's the opposite, we have the passion (or used to anyway) but have never had the friendship. Now I will write this in two parts that will probably require two different responses...

1. Assuming I was normal to begin with, if a relationship started very physical in the beginning, how do you mold this physical based relationship into a friendship? What can be done to fix this?

2. Now, knowing I'm not normal, I was born with a deficiency in my capability of emotionally connecting with people. I've always had a hard time my whole life becoming close to people, and building friendships. So when it came to dating or meeting up with guys, it was easier to connect with them physically, because connecting with them emotionally would take years.

And maybe a 3rd part if it's helpful:
3. I noticed my husband has a hard time connecting to females. He doesn't have female friends, other than through Facebook or online. But in person, he doesn't have any female friends, and just doesn't connect with women very well in general.

So we have me who has difficulty emotionally connecting with anyone, and my husband who has difficulty connecting with women....doesn't make for a good equation to build a friendship...

Of course we do some things together, like watch some TV (which is very passive though), go watch a movie, go eat out, go to Disney World. But I just feel we don't have this emotional connection like I do with my best friends. I don't know where to start. :scratchhead:

Husband is out of work and I'm tired of being the breadwinner

My husband and I have been married for 10 years and we have 2 kids. Even though he has a college degree, he's worked as a waiter for over 20 years with no success at having a career. He was undocumented and didn't have much money, but we bonded very quickly and got married about a year after we first met. I didn't think much about finances back then and things were ok until after we had our daughter about 7 years ago. He worked nights at the restaurant and I worked 8 to 5, and did what we could to raise our daughter.

Because of our schedules, we didn't see each other much and I felt like a single mom for a long time. I tried very hard to be supportive of him. For example, he wanted to go into a nursing program a few years ago. I supported him and let him take the prerequisites at a local junior college, let him quit his job, and paid for everything for a while. There was no way I could have sustained it though. Because it would have taken him 2-3 years to take all the prereqs, then wait to get into one the RN programs at a nearby junior college, which only accepted about 30 students per year on average. After about a year, he got another restaurant job and tried to look for a better job.

He tried to find better work for the past 8 years but didn't get a single job offer from anyone. About 3 months ago, he quit his restaurant job for a "contract" office job even though it didn't make sense to me that he'd have to work 40 hours to get the same pay he did working about 25 hours a week at the restaurant. Also, our 9 month old baby needed to be in daycare full time. He thought there would be a possibility for it to lead to permanent work, so he made the switch even though I didn't agree with him.

Fast forward just 3 months, the company told all the temps that the project got finished early, so the job ended in Jan. He's unemployed and I don't know how long it'll take him to find work. I'm very worried about our finances and the possibility of him not finding gainful employment ... ever. Other than this temp job, no one has offered to hire him in the past 8 years. Our issues are largely because of that, and I've grown to be resentful over the years. My salary is just not enough to sustain having a stay at home husband. We live in a high cost of living area, and I barely make enough for a single person with her own apartment. He's great with the domestic stuff, but I feel that I've been forced into this breadwinner position without much of a choice. It's just not fair to me.

I didn't think it'd be like this. I did odd temp jobs too over 10 years ago, but I never thought I'd be doing the same thing 10 years later. People grow and I just didn't expect that he wouldn't. Naturally, I didn't think he'd still be waiting tables for 20+ years. His English is an issue and he never did anything to improve it all this time. Some days, I feel almost fine but other days, I feel very unhappy and just want out. It's hard with two kids. I feel like everything is on me and me alone. He has been trying, but after 8 years of trying with no results, it's just not good enough, especially when you have kids in the picture.

It's a very stressful situation. I feel very trapped but there's not much I can do. Does anyone have any advice?

*Respecting your spouse*

So I have been married for almost three years. It seems that

with each passing year he displays more apathy. Our sex life is

pretty much non existent and every other aspect of our marriage

has gone dry. He spent a complete year unemployed while I was

struggling to work so we could get by. He played video games

from the moment he woke up, to the time he went to bed. He

also failed two semesters in college.

Ive tried to talk to him calmly or in every manner I can think

of. Trying not to be rude, but rather helpful. I have felt rather

alone and abandoned due to his interest in video games and

other activities. I can no longer approach him about anything.

He says im a broken record and if I have nothing new to say I

I should just shut up. So I been promoted to doormat. I often

think of divorce considering there is no intimate relationship. I

have any times to initiate but it tends to go nowhere.

We had an argument the other day. I expressed my desire

to communicate once more only to be told he has more

important things to worry about. Then I got a list of things he

worries about daily. Also that I dont know what I want and that

im just sitting around letting the credits roll. So anyways I tried

to explain I also worry about these things but he didnt want to

hear what I had to say and ignore what I did say. Ending the

argument the same as usual. I got a text that said night.

On days that I am home I dont get even that. I hate ending

on bad notes. So normally he displays general annoyance

and will either refer to me as crazy or insane for expressing my

sadness. When I cry he says im overreacting so I hide in the

bathroom and cry alone. On his list of worries and priorities, I

was not included.

Dealing with on and off drinking problem.

My husband and I are pretty recently married, but we have been together for like 7-8 years, and we're in our late twenties. It's not til recently he has some problem with drinking (worst times drink about 750ml of whiskey in 2 days) He does have high alcohol tolerance so don't get drunk easily. He said he needs it t help him sleep and cope with stress at work. Because he's a non-violent person, we tried to find ways to reduces it before declaring it a definite problem, but I do present it to him as a problem from time to time. About 3 weeks ago he was drinking with a friend at home, the person was a childhood friend, but they stayed up til 3am getting wasted, I was able to send the friend home. The friend was claiming that he attacked him which raised a big concern for me. I tried to put my husband to sleep, even though he was not violent towards me, he was saying weird stuff and kicking the furniture a few times. So I recorded a what I can and showed it to him the next morning. He was shocked because he said he didn't remember anything, he apologized and promised not to drink for the most part. He did have a little bits of it here and there, but it was much better than before.
But then when his friend decided to drop by again once they made peace, they drank an entire bottle again. This was after I told them I do not want the same thing repeated. When I confronted my husband that his friend should go home, he said the friend was falling in hard times and he wanted to make him feel better. I decided that I was going to go to sleep but stays up til the friend leaves. But then in the middle of the night my husband decided to get into a car with him, which I was upset he didn't say anything, but figures he was just gonna spend some time at his house. So I texted my husband that 'Thanks for not telling me anything', and just hoped that he's come back at some point and went to sleep. Then like an hour later his friend called me saying that he's acting drunk again and maybe I should come and pick him up and txted me the address. At that point I was pretty angry and told him that he should let him stay over until he sobers up. That was that and I went to s leep. My husband finally got home like 5 hours later, and was pissed. He said he was kicked out and left to take the MTA by himself, and no one bothered to check upon him. I asked him why didn't he just call a cab because I know he has maybe less than 200 on him, he said he gave it or spent it all on his friend. I asked him to apologize to me too but he was too stubborn and insist on guilt tripping me. Which I know under normal circumstance as a wife I should be more concerned, but I was just too entrapped in my own emotions to have any good response. Right now I really don't want to waste my day while he's sleeping, so I'm going out to do errands til he comes to his senses. Then perhaps I should tell him I want to live with my parents for a bit til he can promise me not to repeat that. Am I being too harsh? Or perhaps I can deal with it some other way? Sorry for the long read!!!

Controlling In-Laws

Hello everyone. I'm sure this is not the first (or last time) a post of this nature will be up on the forum. In-laws, can't live with or without them, huh? :)

I'd really appreciate any tips or advice! I am a newly married (one year) female with extremely, suffocatingly controlling and interfering in-laws.

My husband comes from a very large family with a very strong mother, who controls every aspect of her husband and children's lives. She pressures her children into everything, including when they will have children, where they will live and where to work (!). I come from a very small family that respects personal choice/space, and so this is a shock to me. I often feel like an outsider because the way I think or behave is extremely different.

What complicates the matter further is the fact that my husband works for his father's company along with his brothers. My FIL is a sweetheart but is a horrible boss. He is always telling my husband that he is not good enough, is a terrible employee and would never survive in the outside world. This is in spite of them (literally) forcing my husband to work for the family company and him working long hours six days a week.

On top of all this, there is mounting pressure on us to have a baby, although we are not ready at all. We want to wait another year at least, but his parents find the idea laughable! Almost every single day, we get phone calls or long lectures about how we shouldn't wait any longer because we will then be too old (I'm 25 and my husband is 29). When they found out I was on the Pill, they almost had a breakdown! It does not help that we live in close proximity to them either. We are expected to visit them several times a week, taking time out of the precious few hours we have together every day. When we are at his parents house, his father will discuss business with my husband. When my husband is at work, his father will discuss personal issues on company time (usually about our reluctance to have a child now). There is NO line separating work from home!

My husband stands by me 100 percent. He is extremely supportive of everything I do, and disagrees with his family and their behavior. He has tried countless times to talk to his parents about giving us our personal space, but with no luck. It is a tricky situation since we are unfortunately financially dependent on them. I've told my husband countless times that I do not mind living on half the salary if it means we get to live our OWN lives and make our OWN decisions, but he feels a duty towards us to make sure we are financially comfortable, and that means working with the family. He often comes home stressed and upset (but NEVER takes it out on me- he always tries to keep a happy smile on his face but I can see through it) and I really do feel like his family is putting a LOT of pressure on our marriage. His family's favorite tactic to get him to do what they want is to guilt him into it-- they will compare him to his brothers, tell him that they are getting old, that he i s a bad son, etc.

I try to make him feel better by telling him that this is his family's very odd way of showing love. They think they are doing what is best for him and we try to maintain a good relationship with them. But at the same time I feel like I've adopted my husband's issues with his family and it is making me extremely stressed. I'm a very shy and quiet person, and in a loud, pushy family of eight (not including his siblings' husbands/ wives and children) I am at my most anxious. I sometimes feel like my MIL and her daughters gang up on me or compare me to his brothers' wives. They also do not respect my need to spend time with my own family, and expect me to give up ALL my time, ambition and dreams to be the cookie-cutter version of a daughter in law they want.

I am head over heels in love with my husband, and would never ever dream of leaving him over this issue. But we both need to find a way to deal with his interfering family. I want to know what it feels like to make your own decisions and not have a persistent feeling of guilt all the time. It's been a year and almost nothing has changed.

If you've made it till here, thanks so much for reading! :) I really appreciate it. What advice do you have for dealing with interfering in-laws if you still want to maintain a relationship with them? Any tips for how to help my husband without insulting his family (he does love them after all)?
