How much does physical appearance affect attraction?

Do you have to be with a 'really attractive' person or does personality make you want to be with them? Is weight an issue? I know a guy who loves my personality but wants me 'fitter' (I'm a size 12, 5ft2 and I know I have a tummy and thighs and would LOVE to be a size 8 and am dieting to do so. But I wouldn't go near this guy due to shallowness), but other guys find my size fine???
