Guys: To what extent is the idea of guys "retreating to their cave" true?

I have heard that guys tend to problem solve and/or relax by retreating into their "cave" as it were.. so will prefer quietness, peace and no contact (isolation) from friends and/or gf to feel better whilst females apparently prefer to talk about their problems to make themselves feel better.

Therefore, if a guy you're with requires about a week of no contact just to get his mind in place after a hectic week of having to do many things, is that seen as a loss of interest in the girl in a polite way or "retreating into their caves" and their feelings towards the girl has not decreased in any way?

As a female, I can't possibly imagine wanting a week of almost no contact in order to solve any problems or "calm my mind" after busy times from people who'd be supportive and caring.. the only reason I would do that is if I really was not interested in the other person anymore.

Prefer guys to answer this but also anything helpful from females e.g. similar experiences with partners and the outcome would also be appreciated.

Thank you

EDIT: I don't just mean introverted guys.. what about guys who appear very lively, talkative and outgoing in general - do they do the same "cave" thing?
