Friend I'm attracted to broken up with bf

So a friend of mine had a... Difficult relationship with her boyfriend. I'm on holiday so didn't know they broke up but saw something was up on twitter so asked her if she was ok. She told me of their breakup and said she had wanted to talk to me the day after but I was away. I'm I credibly attracted to this girl and at new year got very close to kissing her but didn't as she was in a relationship and I'm not an ass. Is it too soon to declare any interest?
