To cut a long story short: We broke up a few months ago after being together a year and a half. Both of us still had feelings but we agreed it wasn't working because of distance and the arguments we were having. We've stayed friends throughout this as he is an important part of my life and still one of my closest friends. We still hang out and things were finally getting better as we were getting over each other. Now, he's told me he broke up with me for my benefit - he thought he was holding me back from uni. He admitted all this in a letter and told me that it's killing him to not be with me but he wants me to be happy and that he wants us to have a future together when the circumstances won't put strain on us. Upon hearing this, I told him that I'm not 'happier' without him, as he thought, I was just getting on with my life and not moping about the break up. Yes, there are still strong feelings there on my part and now that I know he tried to do the right thing in breaking up, I can't help but want to go back to being together. The only problem is that I don't know how to broach this subject with him. I fear that he'll want to wait or won't want to get back together for my benefit again. However, now I know how he really feels, I'm not sure we can be friends with this prospect of us getting back together hanging in the air. I think it needs to be all or nothing because whilst we're waiting for eachother, things are bound to get more complicated as there is the love of a relationship but not the exclusivity and I don't want either of us to get hurt. I love this guy more than anything and I don't want him to be out of my life. I need to let him know that I was always happy when we were together and I am by no means better off. I guess I just need some advice as I really don't know what to do next, or what's for the best. :( | |||
