Have you ever heard a song, it really spoke to you and then you later found out that it had NOTHING to do with what you at first thought? One of my faves will always be "'39" from Queen. Being a WWII history buff, I thought it was about the British Expeditionary Force going over to France in 1939, and the high spirits they were in. If you listen to the song, it sounds like a marching cadence, and the group's voices sound like a military choir. The music even sounds like a band from the war years. WRONG!!!! It's about the effects of traveling at the speed of light thru space, and how you will not have aged very much, but all people on earth will have aged many years. Now the song makes perfect sense, with the lines: "So many years have gone, Though I'm older but a year, Your mother's eyes From your eyes Cry to me." And, it also makes sense that Queen's guitarist, the incomparable Brian May, is now a world renowned astrophysicist. He sure knew what he was writing about! Ah, but I don't mind-whenever researching Great Britain in WWII, I always have the song in my head!:) | |||
