Guy put his hand on my back?

Anon because I have some of his friends on here. Okay so this is probably one of those pathetic "omg a guy made eye contact with me, does that mean we're soulmates" kind of threads but I'm just curious. But today in class I was working with a guy who I don't really know, we've just been in the same class for a year and a half. He's very outgoing, though. We were working together and I made a mistake and he put his arm on like my lower back and said "aww you did fine". It shocked me because guys don't usually casually touch your back haha. At least not your lower back. His tone of voice was also different from his regular tone of voice. Am I reading too deeply into this? Lol.
