The 'selfie': Does it show insecurity or self-confidence?

  • Thread Starter

What do you think?

When a person posts a 'selfie' on Facebook, particularly as their profile picture, one which they've obviously gone to a lot of effort to perfect (preened hair, precise make-up, eyebrows plucked to perfection) what does that say about them? Are they seeking the approval of the online world to satisfy their ego, incapable of feeling good about themselves without the endless 'likes' and 'comments', or are they simply confident enough in their appearance that they're happy to use a picture to represent themselves online?

Just been thinking about it. Sometimes i'll see a 'selfie' and it's such a false representation of the person. Other times i'll see a nice one that looks natural. Maybe some people can pull it off and others can't. Thoughts?
