Taken girl who I like, should I stay close?

I really liked this girl, but since I asked her about her relationship status, and she told me she sas seeing someone I've took a step back, and we've developed a great friendship. We have so much in common, and I'd love to take it to the next level if her circumstances changed. We get on really well and since we stopped working together we've been chatting a lot on Facebook, after work sometimes we'd just chill sitting around in a park for hours. She seems reluctant to meet with me, which I sort of respect as I'd be sort of uncomfortable if I found out my girlfriend was meeting with guys. However should I take an even bigger step back now, or carry on our current relationship? It's just I don't want to make it impossible for anything to happen between us in the future because of me friendzoning myself now. Opinions on how I should treat the situation?
