So what should I do? How do I go about it?

I'm 19, I talk to this girl who works at my local bar, fairly regularly, she smiles etc. but I know that it's her job to act in a friendly manner around customers, so I've never read anything into it. But yet, I'm really attracted to her, and it's her personality more so than her appearance that's got me mesmerised. The truth is, I don't know her name, age or much about her, apart from the odd conversations about the weather, and how busy the bar is etc, our conversations are kept at a fairly 'basic' level. How do I step it up a notch? It's a bit awkward, as she's working, and to distract her on the job, isn't exactly the right thing to do I suppose. But how can I even get to know someone when I only ever see her whilst she's working? Can I even ask her out, what if she's a lot older than me?
