Guys who are humble when receiving compliments

Why be humble? Why not flirt back? :P I complimented the guy I'm dating via text earlier telling him he was really talented. His response was "Aw don't be silly. I'm just the same as everybody else." What is he thinking? And what should I respond back saying? I want to make the conversation continue but I'm a bit stuck now! Something funny/flirty would be good.
