Does she really like me or just as a friend?

I have been talking to this girl at work. She seems to really like me, she is kind of shy which lead me to believe she was good girl. She always talks to me on break and seems to show interest in me. Today she tells me she is talking to this guy who is about to go to jail and says her ex was also in jail which shocked me because i thought she was different. Does this mean she doesn't really like me like that. I am a nice guy never been to jail so this kind of makes me think that I don't have a chance since that is the guy she goes for. I don't understand why girls go for guys like this, I told her she should not go for guys like that and she was looking in the wrong place, kind of hinting that i like her. She obviously can tell that i like her since i talk to her all day but i don't want to really tell her unless i know she feels the same It is hard to read girls sometimes. When we are at work I constantly catch her staring at me and when she comes near me she always has a big smile on here face and looks at me like she likes more or at least is intrigued by me. She seems to always talk to me even if I don't intitate conversation first. I guess I am worried about asking her out and getting rejected then it being awkward at work. Is there anyway I can ask her in a way that is not too obvious or maybe come about it in a different way. I really like her allot, she is very pretty and very down to earth, I think maybe she has been around the wrong kind of guy and never met someone like me. She has opened up to me about allot of things which seems like a good sign and we have common interests and things we need to do. We both want to move out and get our own place which maybe a good opportunity. A few days later she comes into work and says you should be happy I am not talking to guys who get in trouble anymore, I am thinking yes this may be my opportunity or maybe she is going tell me that she likes me, boy was I wrong. She then proceeds to tell me she is talking to yet another guy, even shows me his picture (god this guy is ugly) and she texts him all day at work. She still talks to me though and still is nice and following me around all day pretty much, not sure if she likes me or is not sure yet. I hinted to her that I liked her a few times that day, not being too obvious but letting it be known that I think she is cool. She even tells me that she will miss working with me because like I said before she is quiet and I am the only person she really talks to and opens up to at work. I think this may be a game she is playing to make me jealous or fight for her. We work together so I am not going to flat out tell her how I feel and get turned down, if she likes me too she should let me know in some way. I am not ugly, I have a good personality, make her laugh all the time. The problem is I am not the type of guy she has been with and it seems most girls go for. (Douche bag with tattoos) At the end of the day she tells me she loves talking to this guy, it kind of pissed me off I told her bye and I would see her next time I work. I didn't really let it show but maybe I should have and just left and not said shit to her. Not sure what to do at this point, she seems like a girl who is confused and truthfully a little immature but I still like her and think about her all the time but the age difference may be a problem.
