Cultural Vibe.....

Ok,
I got this idea after reading Mablenc's " Diversity 101 " thread, and my favourite female poster in Social, Southern Wife's
" Things a Southern boy would never say " thread.

Many of us here are form different countries / societies and hence we would have different cultural backgrounds.
I absolutely love exploring different cultures!

So I thought that we could talk , laugh , share , compare pics / vids about it.

I'll go first.

As the name implies I'm fro the Caribbean.
For those of you who have been here as visitors you may have seen a dance called the " Limbo Dance " looking something like this:

This dance originated in the islands of Trinidad & Tobago and was originally done by ex African slaves as they practised their religion.
It was something usually done way deep in the forests because the Colonial authorities banned it out of fear.
It was a voodoo dance ritual meant to call on the spirits of their [ ex slaves] dead ancestors.
After gaining independence, the dances became mainstream because people were now free to practise their religion.
As tourism began to grow on the island, visitors were intrigued by the dance ritual, the drumming that went with it, the drinks and the party.
It started appearing in movies and became instantly popular along with the " Conga Line " and the " Bongo" dance.
All of these dances originated on the Island of Trinidad & Tobago in the Caribbean.
Here's an amateur youtube vid.
