Am I being weird

  • Thread Starter

I've been with my boyfriend for two years. And we usto talk lots about having kids and where we would live and basically planning and dreaming together. I loved it and it seemed like he did too; but recently (for reasons) I got drunk and wrote him a heartfelt letter and I sent him a list of names I liked. I admit it is slightly strange, but I've gotten so comfortable with him I tell him everything and I very rarely censor myself. But then I asked if he'd read it and he said he read bits of it which I admit hurt, so I told him it did. And he said something like "Why would I want to read something all about children" which it wasn't. I know as I have the draft of the letter, most of it is about how much I love him and can't wait to see him soon as we have not seen each other in a while.

Is it me being too strange and clingy? Or is he growing away and being tired of me?

Struggling with break up

  • Thread Starter

We broke up on Wednesday after a break and he had found someone else anyway to cut the post down we agreed to remain friends which is fine because I don't want to be with him and I'm trying to move on myself but today I'm having a day where everything reminds me of him and I'm nearly crying at everything and right now I'm an emotional mess and I have work in 10 minutes, how can I stop feeling like this? I know time will help but right now I need a quick fix. I wrote a letter on the ''dear you'' thread if you want to read it (http://ift.tt/1iaGs1z posted under this username) just in case you need more info etc.

Needing Help and advise

Hello: I have been married 20 years, my W and I have drifted apart. We have 2 kids both teenagers one will be 18 later this month. My number one issue is a few months ago during a fight she punched me in the face 3 times, I cant get this out of my head, basically its all I think about when I'm at home.
I don't want to stay and I'm scared to leave, mainly because of my kids and for financial reasons.
Any advise will be greatly appreciated.
How do make the ultimate decision to leave?

Can my marriage be salvaged?

I have been married for 14 years to my wife that I met while on vacation in Europe. She was a very successful entrepreneur and I was on vacation. We fell in love, and eventually she gave up her life in her home country to move to the US to be with me. After her arrival, things were different. I was now in the "real world" with work and family and friends outside of her. She was now a small fish in a foreign pond, with no one other than me. She came here on a fiance visa, so we only had 90 days to get married. Things were actually tough even in that first 3 months. But I felt like I had "committed" to the relationship and told myself that I needed to follow through. Now, 14 year later, we have two children, 7 and 10, but for the past few years, my feelings toward her have become more resentment than love.

The bottom line is that I think she is a very harsh person. She is and always has been a SAHM. She is very harsh with the children and talks to me like a dog. Most mornings when she gets the children ready for school, she becomes impatient and speaks very harshly or yells at them. At least one is in tears most days. So I began getting them ready for school every day. Same at bedtime, so I have taken over that responsibility as well.

Between her and I, I feel like she is never satisfied with anything that I do. She complains that I left a better paying job in which I was miserable and missed my children due to extensive travel. I took a lower paying position which allows me to spend more time with the family. In response, I am told that I am selfish and lazy and just thinking about myself. I recently decided to surprise her by having her car detailed and buying her some special bath soaps that I thought she would like. She responded by pointing out that I had wasted money on a crappy detail job and that the soaps smelled like a brothel. No "a" for effort, I guess.

We have not had much of a sex life for a few years (by my choice, I just don't really feel anything for her anymore.) I recently told her that I am not happy in our marriage and she was shocked and quickly became angry. She said we have a great marriage and that I am being selfish.

I have suggested marriage counseling, but she refuses. She thinks we should be able to solve our own problems. When I asked her why she speaks so harshly, she tells me that she does not mean to be hurtful, and that it is my problem if I see it that way. I know I am not perfect (and am regularly reminded of that fact) but I feel like I have put forth an effort to try to make things better by assuming some of her responsibilities. I have always been one to take marriage very seriously, but at this point I am wondering if there is any point in continuing in this relationship which leaves me emotionally drained day in day out.

(For divorcees)... Just realized...

...my two-year anniversary of my divorce date was this past January. Nearly 4 months later, I realize I didn't even remember it (nor did I think of it on the one-year anniversary either!) Guess it means I'm over it, huh?

I'm just curious for those of you who are divorced... does your marriage anniversary or divorce anniversary trigger you? Do you celebrate it (or mourn it)?

Help recognizing Wife for her effort

First post on this forum - but big user of forums on other subjects.

Kind of surprised there isn't a sub for this, to the effect of '(in)fertility' issues. Anyway, wife and I of not quite three years have been trying to conceive for about 6 months. She's always had some hormonal irregularities but has never been specifically diagnosed. So, we're struggling with uncertainty in that area.

We've been having sex generally every other day for the last few months, with a few periods of frustration killing her desire. She shared with me last night that she is disinclined to want to have sex as if she doesn't think there is a chance to conceive, it reminds her of the frustration of trying unsuccessfully. But, we had above-average sex last night and I really want to show her I appreciate her concession.

Asking wives/mothers, what is a good way to go about recognizing her efforts? It is a bit prickly as I don't want to put too much pressure on her, and she REALLY does not like having dialogue about our intimacy and gets frustrated whenever we have to talk about intimacy issues.

Any ideas on how to send the correct message, without a discussion? Thanks in advance!

Husband pushing self help books on me

My husband keeps pushing self help books on me because he has been obsessed with them. He says it has helped him a lot and I respect that, however, it's not for me. Because we have been in a relationship funk, I do appreciate what he is doing for himself. I finally told him that I would see a therapist and he is insistent on the books instead. Several years ago, he pushed me to get therapy and I did so. It did help to talk to someone. The therapist validated my feelings, actually. My problem is that I'm very sensitive and tend to get angry when he complains about me... My husband is generally a nice guy that expects a lot from me when he cannot excel himself (career-wise).

It's gotten to the point of if I don't read these books, our marriage is over, kind of scenario. We have one son that we both adore. I do not want to break up the family. Mind you, it bothers me more that he is forcing these books on me, more than the fact that I just don't have an interest in these type of books.

Your thoughts, please.

How long can you go without sex?

  • Thread Starter

In a relationship or not. How does it effect you when you can't get any for long periods? I found myself 3 years before and although I felt pressure to have it and sometimes even missed it I found that my interest in women decreased dramatically and I went about my daily life as though women weren't meant to be chased and I treated them as I would anybody else. Only today I saw a girl I met a few times in a nightclub and all I did was smile at her even though she was saying flirtatious things such as wolf whistling I suppose it could've been out of shyness. I'm still a member on pof but I tend to lack motivation to talk to some of them and unless it's going to be a booty call I'm not bothered. I feel like even if I tried I'd be hopeless as I do have some social anxieties that will stop me at the first hurdle ( I can't even date someone given the oppurtunity as I'm too afraid to go on one ) so I feel like there's no point in trying at all

Is your sex life misogynistic?

  • Thread Starter

In our culture women are often treated like objects, especially with women of colour and how we are exocitized and fetishized. I think it's important to take a look at our sex lives and examine the reasons behind what we like and if any of those are sinister.

Obviously a lot of men partake in finding sexually violent and vulgar imagery and words arousing. With violent adjectives like "destroyed", "pounded" and "banged" all being used akin to an attack on a passive dehumanised victim, a thing, an achievement and conquest to be proud of feed their masculinity performance. I think if the guys you are sleeping with get off on degrading and dominating you, you should look closely in to that and check if it's influenced by latent or even obvious misgyonistic views. You should also look in to why you like be controlled and shamed with words like "slut" during sex, and address if it's perhaps you internalising sexism and also a bit of stockholm sydrome. If I was a black woman and I was sleeping with a white guy who used a racist fancy during sex, I'd definitely find that suspect, and these sexist actions should be treated no differently.

Saying women liking dominant men becomes a self-fulfilling prophecy when we are constantly told this by society and not actually given a choice. Guys slave away in the gym obsessing over every muscle, worry about their penis size, their stamina, not because of the pleasure of the woman or her feelings, but because of how it makes themselves feel more masculine and like real men.

Every guy I have been with demonstrated things you see in graphic pornography and views of submissive women, this content is probably created for the misogynistic desire and not causing it, it just gives them more ideas. When 8 out of 10 guy call you a slut in bed and assume you like it that's a problem.

Tinder date tonight

  • Thread Starter

I went on Tinder and got this girl's number in a few messages. Then we've chatted quite a lot over the last 2 days on Tinder. We both planned on going out tonight with our mates but both groups of our mates aren't going because of Uni exams. So me and her are going to a cocktail bar.

I've never done dates before so I don't know what it's going to be like. She seems slightly scared too. I'm not nervous or anything but I just think we won't have much to say as we've chatted about everything over texts.

I'm 19 soon to be 20, she's 20, we're both at Uni (first year, and her second year). I'm not going to sleep with her (as I believe I MAY have an STD but probably not - but to be on the safe side I won't). However there's a fairly high chance I could go back with her and just spoon or something.

What are some things to talk about? I find the 'so tell me about yourself' questions really cliche. And I don't think this'll lead to a relationship so it's not that sort of date.

Also what are cocktail bars like because I've only gone to clubs? I will probably start kissing her eventually but I think it could be weird as it'll be a different sort of environment from a club (i.e not as much loud music, dancing, really drunk people etc).

Feel weird for not partaking in (facebook) PDA?

  • Thread Starter

Me and my boyfriend aren't into the whole PDA thing. We'll hold hands, kiss each other hello/goodbye in public etc etc.

We virtually never use Facebook, there a few pictures up of us together on it, and we will occasionally mention things we've done/where we've went out, though we aren't really facebooky people for even general stuff too. We talk to each other in person/text/skype so I at least feel like there is no need to update Facebook constantly. I know he loves me, He knows I love him, I don't see the point in telling my 200 odd friends it.

I see loaaaads of couples however every single day bombarding Facebook with loads of pictures of them, statuses every week/day about how much they love they're boyfriend/girlfriend, what they got them etc.

I'm sort of thinking, wow, maybe these people think we have a crap relationship or something because we are private with it. I just feel a bit weird because it seems the norm to plaster your relationship everywhere, and it isn't the norm for us. We are both happy keeping to ourselves, But I guess I just feel a bit awkward, like there is something wrong with it because it seems uncommon. We've been going out for 4 years, so maybe it's just because i'm seeing a load of early relationships that it's a bit weird because we are comfortable. Is it that important nowadays to publicly how much you are in love everywhere all the time?

How can I stop getting an erection when I kiss a girl?

  • Thread Starter

Anon as it's an embarrassing issue.

When I kiss a girl, I always get a huge erection from it. This can be very awkward and uncomfortable in public places. How can I stop this? I have to wait till my erection subsides before moving or getting up and people could see. It is not so bad in private but still not good because the girl might see.
