Long Distance Reconciliation
| Today is my 18th anniversary. It is also exactly one month to the day when H told me of his 9 month affair. H is in the military and we have lived apart for 7 years. He is currently stationed in Asia and has been there for a year and a half. I've always been the wait at home for him wife. We have two children - jr in high school and a jr in college. This last year, I finally broke free and found something I enjoyed to help pass the time quickly. This made me unavailable for the most part to H. Perfect time to employ the out of sight, out of mind tactic. 5 weeks ago, H asked for a separation, via skype. The next day, he told me was wrong and he wanted to work things out between us. I asked if there was someone else, he said no. We talked things out for the next few days and then BOOM the 4th day I get an email with a complete confession. 'I love you, but I have to be honest...' Of course, the 4 days in between he was with OW every night. He ended it with her the night before, yet still had sex with her and spent the night with her. The initial aftermath was ugly, but he was brutally honest with me and very forthcoming with all my questions and my anger and appears to be quite remorseful. He promised to quit drinking, going out, gambling and would see the base chaplain and get some counseling. We also made the decision for him to retire a lot earlier than we intended. However, this still leaves us 10k miles apart for the next 8-9 months. He's 20 miles from OW. I've read things - books, forums etc for help with infidelity, but for some reason I can't find anything on dealing with this long distance! We now talk every day for hours. And I am in IC. Flashbacks are killer though and I find myself with random breakdowns - a song, buying a card, etc. My oldest child knows (she was with me when I got the confession unfortunately) my youngest knows nothing. So I find myself putting on a fake smile for everyone in the middle of my breakdowns. I do let H know what I'm feeling and going through and so far he's been quite understanding and vows to help me through this...even at this distance. There's so much more to our story, but I won't bore with the details. Communication has never been our strong suit, but it is something we have improved greatly on in the last month. When we are talking - I forget everything. When we aren't my mind wanders unimaginably. I hate his feeling. I can't move there and he can't be here any sooner than his retirement :( I just want him here so he can physically help me through this...how do I take him for his word? I almost panic every time I get an email now... When he's sleeping - I wonder if he's with her... Am I just going to be a total freak from this point forward?. | |||

H working out of state constantly
| The biggest reason I would be considering a divorce is because my H has worked away from home for over half of our marriage. He says I married into this, but no I did not. He is thinking about changing unions and transfering to a state that is right to work. The fact that he is wishy washy on where we live permantly live is getting to me. Yesterday it was that he was thinking of transfering his union to AZ becuase he would be working more there than here in CO. Today its that he would like to move back to CO when work picks back up. I told him I don't want to live in CO because hes been laid off most of the time hes been in this union or hes worked out of state cause of no work here. There has not been work in this union since Jan 2012. He himself just said a few days ago that the new guy in charge of this union keeps his buddies working, but not everyone else. Track record for this union is not good. I mean come on...NO WORK SINCE JAN 2012!!!! There are a variety of other reasons I don't want to live in CO anymore too. The weather constantly keeps him not working too. If it snows too much, work is shut down, if its too windy work is shut fown for safety reason, if its negative degrees work is shut down as well. I know I can not live with being a single parent to 3 kids while I'm married and being alone all the time. I've already started making plans to divorce. So that when I ultimiatly decide, I will be ready financially. | |||

strange......
| My marriage has had its dark days and i am doing my best to put them behind me.... so now i am pregnant with our third child and have been so tired lately. So i took a nap yesterday and when i got up my husband told me to get up and go feed the dog because he isn't going to do it. Well needless to say i got irritated at his attitude and we got into a disagreement. He is a very hard worker but when it comes to the home life he does nothing! No cleaning at all! in our disagreement he told me that i was lazy! so he decides he is going to bed at 7pm and the kiddos were running around playing at that time. he gets irritated that they are making noise so he goes and sleeps in the master bathroom. instead of coming out to lend me a hand..... really? Also i would like to add that i need dental work done, so i have been going to the dentist so he always brings it up in an argument that my teeth aren't completely fixed yet to try and hurt my feelings. i work part time and the time that i am not working i am at home with the kiddos caring for them and cleaning the home. Just wanted to vent and get some opinions on this situation.... his behavior is very strange to me! i have never seen anyone sleep in the bathroom unless they passed out there lol | |||

Are you one of those "rude" people who dine out?
| If you're like a lot of people who enjoy dining out but you are one of those who are sometimes rude to your waitress or waiter; as someone who used to work in a restaraunt a long time ago and who has a nephew working in one right now, I have got some HORROR stories for you on how rudeness is handled by those employees(and they all involve your......FOOD)! | |||

The U.S. and WWI
| Just got into a discussion of politics in a CWI thread, and in order to not let that thread get too far into the weeds, I elected to start a new thread over here. One area of history that I've reflected upon in the past is why the U.S. elected to fight in WWI. I know Wilson used the excuse of the sinking of the Lusitania by German U-boats and the death of 180 Americans. However, we know that the British were running munitions on these passenger liners, which made them legitimate targets for warfare. Truman WANTED the U.S. in WWI. One of my biggest opinions on the war that it was NOT a war over democracy. Just because the British and the French had representative gov'ts while the Germans and Austrians had monarchies, it is disingenuous to talk about the Germans potentially "wiping democracy off the face of the earth". Let's call a spade a spade: WWI was in reality a European war that was over colonies. The Germans were rising in power and influence in Europe since it recently unified as a country, and it was very late to the game for colonies. That plus a whole bunch of double dealing, triple dealing and quadruple dealing?!?!?!?! when it came to the myriad of treaties between all of the European powers and that is what caused the war. Anyways, I've always wondered what others thought of WWI. It's the war that gets overshadowed by WWII, and it is the war that set a chain of events into motion that had major affects on history down the road. | |||

Any Point In Looking?
| Hi, Trying to make myself feel better living the single life, but its getting harder I can't stand seeing my friends and family having children and really happy together. I even try to avoid the town centers as I see so many people happy makes me sad about my own situation. I am currently trying to save up for my own place, plus I have started my own business with small success, but not enough to support a wife and kids yet. Is there any point getting into a relationship? I am thinking that it may take 1-2 years get to know before making a commitment (in that time I hope to be financially secure). Will she understand my situation my past? I don't think many women do nowadays they want security rather than tag team. | |||

boyfriend likes SKINNY girls
| Okay so there was me thinking that pretty much all guys like curvacious women (kelly brook, scarlett johansen etc etc)..I mean, look at pretty much every glamour model! However, my boyfriend told me he actually likes girls with 'boyish' figures, what worries me a bit is that he describes girls who in my opinion have great figures as 'a bit fat'. He actually likes the rake thin model look which as far as I was concerned was a complete turn off for men. I am slim myself but I'm not skinny (size 8-10), I have put on weight over the last year or so and am happy with my figure but I can't help feeling like I repulse my boyfriend (He refered to his ex as 'chubby' and she looks the same size as me! not sure if he was joking or trying to make me feel better). This seems to go against nature, surely guys like healthy curvy women?! | |||

She used to hold me
| Two situations I am requiring assistance with: 1. Gf and I have been in a rel'ship for 6 months now and, since about 2 weeks ago, she has become really awkward with physical contact. We used to hug everyday; even simple things like before college or when I went off to do a bit of shopping etc. I asked her if she was okay today and she just sort of turned away and made as if to push me away (she didn't physically push me away). Anyway, is this likely to be an issue developing or am I overreacting? It's not the actual act that bothers me, more the subtlety behind it. 2. I am planning to try to join the army this summer. Have you known of any cases where a rel'ship has thrived despite one member going away to fight? It has been a long term ambition of mine so I would like encouragement but don't be afraid to be brutally honest. | |||

I'm miserable since I left my ex - time isn't healing anything!
| So about two months ago, I broke up with my longtime girlfriend because she'd been cheating on me. The entire debacle is available here if you'd like to know it. At first I was angry and upset and sort of powered through the break-up phase with sheer determination and a refusal to be weak and give in to her and take her back. My ex has pretty much called/Skyped/IChat'ed/Facebooked/Emailed me every day since she went back to New York. A couple of weeks or so ago, the daily communication attempts went down to once every few days. This entire week I haven't received any kind of contact from her. At first, I was relieved, I mean I wanted her to leave me alone and let me move on - at least that's what I told myself after Day 3 of no communication. Today's Day 7 and I am miserable. It's not like I've been sitting and feeling sorry for myself, I go out, clubbing, etc. I've had a few one night stands in the past month. None of these things is even remotely fulfilling. I retreated to my books and have been going out with friends practically every day to keep myself occupied, but I keep thinking about her. I'm trying so hard to forget her and immerse myself in university and work, but no matter what, she's just always at the back of my mind. It's gotten to the point where I wake up every morning after having the most vivid dreams about her. I rarely remember my dreams, but lately they're clear, memorable and she stars in all of them. I can't and won't forgive her for what she did to me. But that still doesn't erase the fact that I love her. When does it get easier? PS: Sorry for the rant. Just had to get that off my chest. | |||

2 weeks since court. confused roller coaster. NEED advice!
| Its been two weeks since we went to court for our dissolution. What a crazy two weeks its been. Despite the advice of everyone I know, I did meet the ex for lunch. What is clear is that neither one of use is really happy things are over. If you have seen any of my other posts, you will know that my ex-monster in law (who hates men) was a big part of my divorce. I think she is the #1 reason why things are so confusing right now. In the past month here has been the trajectory of events with my ex: early january lawyers office she wouldnt even make eye contact with me, no contact for a month (i actually felt great), court: wife was really pleasant, after court: lunch, that night massive ammounts of text from wife about getting back together/her being miserable, then about 3 days of insane texts/calls from ex blaming me for everything that went wrong (in all honesty she admitted in december it was 50/50-i would say 60/40 her, but nonetheless), i told her to leave me alone, no contact for about a week, renewed texts from her saying that she is sad its over and asking about our dogs (which she still refers to as our "kids"), now we have simple, pleasant texts. During the week after our court meeting I actually went on two different dates. One of the girls I really liked and we decided we should take things very slow as she is also divorced. So now, for my dilemma: part of me wants to keep in communication with the ex (if it remains friendly) and see if anything happens there. Part of me thinks that doing so is absolutely INSANE and will only hold back my recovery from this whole thing. What do I do??? Everyone I know who has been divorced said for mental health sake you should have no contact at all (we dont have kids). Its soooo damn confusing. | |||
