Short version for those who don't know my story... been divorced for 2+ yrs, we have a 6yr old son together. My exh is a loser, video game addiction, cheated with a much younger woman, I was the breadwinner and "responsible" parent..he was essentially a grown up child. After the divorce nothing much has changed, he pays child support when he feels like it (this is another issue but going back to court next year), quits jobs and changes residences often (couch surfing for the majority of the last 2 yrs). For the first 1.5 yrs he saw our child somewhat sporadically, often cancelling, always late or dropping off early... In the last year he has become more dependable about taking DS on his scheduled time of every other weekend and one night a week ( though he is still always late in pick up, with excuse after excuse).
My current issue is now my DS has begun idolizing his loser father and im not sure how to best handle this.
Part of this I get, my exh is the fun time parent, no real consistent rules, inappropriate video games, no chores...ect ect... why wouldn't a 6yr old want that? The part that bothers me more is that my kid doesn't get upset when my exh flakes out on him, he just continues to talk about him like hes the most amazing thing ever, or seems to try extra hard to not make my exh upset.
I hear things from my child like "daddy you can be late whenever you want I will never be mad at you", "the only thing special in my life is daddy", "daddy is the smartest ever"
Just looking for some insight or if anyone has experienced this and how to best handle the situation...
