To all you introverts...

I'm very extroverted and sociable, and I find it a lot harder to relate to/get to know introverts (natural, I suppose). Sometimes, I find it hard to tell if someone is introverted, shy, or just being rude. I'm quite touchy feely too (often hug my friends) but often when I do it with an introvert (even a good friend) they look at me like I've just violated them. Introverts, how do I relate to you better? Most of my friends are outgoing, and the introverts I know have different interests to me and perspectives on life (they're geeky in a good way) so sometimes it's hard to find a common interest or perspective on life (they "open up" when arguing about stuff like politics or video games, whereas I'd rather talk about sport or something). I'm naturally nice and friendly, but how do you be that way to an introvert without intruding on their personal space? And how do you tell if someone is introverted or just dislikes you?
